Dena Derose

I always look forward to each new CD by pianist singer Dena DeRose. Her piano continues to amaze. With each new CD her artistry on the keys only grows and grows. She presents us here with eight totally pleasurable songs. What a surprise they are. "Only The Lonely" (Cahn/VanHeusen) by this time deservedly gets a distaff vocal. She's certainly a head and ear turner. Her vocal here dramatically underlines just why this became monumentally popular for Sinatra. His moody ballad just got improved. "I'm Glad There Is You" (Dorsey/Mertz) contains a sensational piano solo midway. But that is only the sandwich. The adoring vocal before and after are so uniquely polished. It's a rhythmic toe tapping vocal. At its conclusion she offers us a wondrous acapella voicing which simply can’t be bettered. "Sunny" (Hebb) has it all, swing vocal and piano, worked to perfection. Dena again has succeeded in a superb presentation for the ears.
